Sodium hydrogen carbonate

But bicarbonate of soda, also sodium bicarbonate NaHCO3, is a salt of strong base (NaOH) and weak acid (carbonic acid). That is why it has basic significance. It reacts violently with acids to form CO2 gas, which is seen as bubbling. Baking soda is often used in cosmetics, as it has positive effects on the skin: in the bath softens the skin, helps in detoxification and, due to its basic nature, inhibits the growth of microorganisms.

Citric acid

(C6H8O7) is a weak acid that is naturally present in citrus fruits. It makes citrus fruits sour. Upon contact with water, it reacts violently with baking soda in a bath ball. During the reaction, neutral products are formed and CO2 gas, which we see as bubbles.

Epsom sol

But magnesium sulfate MgSO4 (also bitter salt, ice salt) are colorless crystals with a cold, salty-bitter taste. A well-known Slovenian product containing magnesium sulfate is Donat Mg.
